100 Years of Quality
Johann Dönges began production of files and rasps in 1903 in Remscheid. These were mostly sold in Remscheid and in Solingen. In the 20s, the clientele stretched out to Koblenz and Gießen.
In 1949, the owner’s son, Heinrich Dönges, stepped into the company. He built up the programme of trading quality tools next to the production of files. After Johann Dönges died in 1962, production was stopped in 1967. |

Heinrich Dönges fell ill at this time and so long-term employee Bodo Kaiser kept the company going. Heinrich Dönges died in 1971.
After his death, his daughter Marion owned the company. Her husband, Jürgen Pletsch, entered the company management as authorised signatory in 1973. |

Wolfgang Schulz, with the company since 1979, began the cooperation with the Federal Armed Forces and the Ministry for the Interior.
Later, he built up the inner-German merchandise trade with the GDR to a strong pillar.

1987 saw the foundation of sister company Wetec, specially for marketing electrical tools and modern soldering systems. This area was built up by Thomas Pletsch, son of the company’s owner.
The areas ‘fire brigade equipment’ and ‘criminal investigation technology’ followed as new pillars. Beside pure trade, gradually original products started being produced once again. Dönges exclusively manufactures many special products today.

Relocation to the new company building in 2003 at Jägerwald, now with way over 3,000 m² of surface area and over 8,000 m² of land. |
We build new office-buildings and warehouse in 2010 and 2011. The new warehouse has more than 1700 mē of space and room for more than 2500 paletts.

The location of Remscheid as a centre of the German tools industry supports our work to a considerable extent to this day: in the 15th Century, water hammers were already produced in the region for forging and treating for working work pieces. There quickly followed businesses in all areas of tool production.

Remscheid, the seaside town in the mountains
We have written ourselves onto the flag, with clearly presented catalogues, excellent prices and personal advice from the home office and field staff, to satisfy our customers.
2003, Dönges celebrates its first centenary.
